Who We Are
The Evangelical Church of Papua New Guinea (ECPNG) began in 1931 when missionaries of the Unevangelised Fields Mission (UFM) arrived at Madiri in Western Province with a vision to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to people who had never heard the Gospel.
On 16 June 1940, the first four Gogodala believers — Pasiya, Guwaba, Apani and Mase — were baptized, marking the birth of the indigenous church.
On 9 July 1966, the Evangelical Church of Papua (ECP) was officially inaugurated at Biula, Balimo, becoming an autonomous national church led by Papua New Guineans.
In 1990, the Church officially adopted the name Evangelical Church of Papua New Guinea (ECPNG), reflecting its national identity and growing ministry throughout the country.
60 Years of God’s Faithfulness
As ECPNG celebrates its 60th Diamond Jubilee from 1966 to 2026, we give thanks to God for His faithfulness from the humble beginnings at Madiri and Biula, Balimo, to the national church we are today.
